"I'm not photogenic."
I hear that one all the time! As a matter of fact, I've always been one of the people most likely to say it. But here's the thing: photogenicity is sort of an action word (it's a bit of a made-up word, at that). What I mean is that photogenicity happens. Everyone is photogenic. And I do mean everyone. It is a state of mind, truly. I have found that when a woman feels beautiful, she becomes so. People who are comfortable in their skin take great pictures. Those who feel nervous, or worry about not taking a good picture tend to come across that way in images, too.
This is precicely why I work so hard to bond with my subjects and to make them forget about the camera and above all, have fun!
It is through laughter and joy and even concentrated work (or play) that that the best images happen. That's right, they happen! So my goal is to catch my subjects "in flow." What's flow? According to Wikipedia, "Flow is the mental state of operation in which a person in an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and success in the process of the activity. Proposed by Mihály Csíkszentmihályi, the positive psychology concept has been widely referenced across a variety of fields."
Too much information? Ok, let me handle it. Just relax and have fun with me, and we'll take some great pictures. You will be so surprised... You never knew you looked so good! The cool part? It really is you.
